Celebrating Diversity Through the Irvine Multicultural Association
We are proud to live in a community that values diversity, connection, and cultural understanding—qualities that the Irvine Multicultural Association (IMA) embodies so well. As a hub for celebrating the rich traditions, stories, and identities that make up our city, the IMA brings people together through shared experiences, education, and dialogue. Whether through its monthly cultural showcases or language programs, the association fosters respect and inclusion, helping to build a stronger, more compassionate community for all.
Founded in 1996 with a mission to promote intercultural harmony among Irvine’s residents—particularly seniors—the IMA has become a model for how local initiatives can inspire global thinking. What began as a small committee at the Lakeview Senior Center has grown into a vital city-supported program that offers everything from cultural presentations and international film nights to English language classes and volunteer opportunities. These events don’t just entertain; they educate, connect, and empower people from all walks of life.
Perhaps most impressively, the IMA laid the groundwork for what would become the Irvine Global Village Festival—now one of the city’s largest and most beloved annual events. That legacy of celebration continues year-round through the IMA’s “Exploring Our World” series, which invites residents to learn about different cultures, customs, and perspectives in an open and welcoming environment.
In a time when so many communities are grappling with division and misunderstanding, Irvine stands out as a place where diversity is not only accepted but actively celebrated. The work of the Irvine Multicultural Association reminds us that inclusion is not a passive value—it’s a practice, one that requires ongoing effort, engagement, and care. We are grateful to have an organization like the IMA leading that effort and creating spaces where everyone feels seen, respected, and connected.
Let us continue to support and participate in the IMA’s programs, recognizing that each event, conversation, and connection contributes to the kind of community we all want to live in: one rooted in empathy, curiosity, and unity.
