Happy Juneteenth Everyone! Today we celebrate freedom and acknowledge the ongoing fight for equality and justice.

Crazy Christina Shea, 1989

- “I’m a mom with three kids and I don’t want gay pride festivals or public sex in bathrooms in my city.”

- "homosexuality is characterized by a wide range of sexual perversions, varying degrees of promiscuity and a disproportionate percentage of sexually transmitted diseases."

- "granting special protection to homosexuals as a group 'dilutes the status of valid minorities.'”

- “I’ll fight again if they want to bring homosexuality into the public arena.”

Irvine City Council, Today - Raised the Progress Pride Flag to celebrate Harvey Milk Day, with the flag remaining on display through June 30.

- Hosts “Pride in Irvine” a free, annual celebration hosted by the City Council for Pride Month.

- Created the permanent DEI committee to advise on equity in city policies, employment, contracting, hate-crime response, and more.

- Opened Irvine’s first universal playground, accessible to individuals of all abilities including adaptive swings, sensory gardens, wheelchair access, and support for multigenerational play.

It is unfortunate some are bringing up the threat of recalls for our City Council that is united and doing so much for our community. Is this Crazy Christina's attempt to claw her way back in to Irvine politics and bring back the hateful Measure N?

Juneteenth reminds us to never repeat the sins of our past, and as a united Irvine community for tolerance, we do not want to go back to the sins of Crazy Christina Shea and her hateful politics.

As Democrats in a primarily Democratic city, we need to make sure the hateful policies of the past are not repeated here again.
