Thank you to the Irvine City Council and the City of Irvine for uniting our community. We have become a true city of tolerance and unity.
Watching Mayor Agran and our Irvine leaders raising the Progress Pride Flag in front of City Hall in honor of Harvey Milk Day and Pride Month has made me proud to be an Irvine city resident.
Thank you Mayor Larry Agran, your leadership has set the tone for this new era of working together. Mayor Agran listens to the community, whether attending events throughout our city, working on Irvine’s excellent park system including The Great Park, or managing public comments at City Council Meetings. His patience and openness to listening helps our community so much. As he has stated himself on social media: “Let’s continue to stand together…and uphold the values of equality, inclusion, and love for all.”
An alarming rumor has been spreading online of a possible recall against our City Council. If the rumors are true, I fear that Crazy Christina Shea may want to run for council. That would not be good for Irvine. It would be a step back to an ugly chapter of hate and divisiveness. We need to remember that Shea was the architect of Measure N, the 1989 anti-LGBTQ measure that removed sexual orientation protections in the City of Irvine. Bigots like Shea have no place in Irvine leadership. No matter what side of the political spectrum you gravitate toward, we should all agree that there’s no place for Shea’s hatred in Irvine. It’s time to move forward, for all residents, and not back into the past.
Here's a reminder of things Shea said while leading the Measure N campaign:
“I’m a mom with three kids and I don’t want gay pride festivals or public sex in bathrooms in my city.” – Christina Shea
“By acknowledging homosexuals as a minority in law, the government is condoning behavior that runs contrary to accepted moral beliefs that have run this country since its inception.” – Christina Shea
“I’ll fight again if they want to bring homosexuality into the public arena.” – Christina Shea
We cannot let this divisive individual use the City Council to spread hate. Let’s stop this nonsense before it gets started.
